Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there! We just got back from lunch with my husband's father and mother, my two sons and their soon-to-be brides, one of my grandsons and my brother-in-law and his two sons. My daughter and her husband and son are on the road back from Houston. (been to a wedding). Anyway, they are taking my husband out to eat as well when they get here! Oh my!! Dinner out twice in one day!! Guess the diet will start tomorrow!!
I called my daddy to wish him a Happy Father's Day. Bless his heart...he kept forgetting what day it was. He's 94 and has the beginnings of Alzhimer's disease. It really breaks my heart. It's almost unbearable to watch his mind fade away. So far it hasn't been bad.....forgets names...forgets what he had for breakfast (or even that he HAD breakfast)...had to ask Bea if he went to church this morning. But thankfully he still has a sense of humor. He may not always remember my name, but he knows I love him dearly.
My daddy and I have always been close. He used to call me Nubbins when I was little (he said I had a Nubbin-nose) . He said he never had to spank me because I apparently was "smarter" than the other 3 kids and learned what not to do...either that, or I was just sneakier!! But I love my daddy dearly and hate seeing him fade away. He's a wonderfully kind hearted man, small in stature but big in his heart. He was a well-known veterinarian back in his day, and still has a reputation around town with the vets that are out there now. I'm so proud when I hear them tell me that he led the way to what veterinary medicine is today.
I love you, daddy. Have a wonderful day!
